Home front // Down low

We’re on the move again. For reasons I won’t bore you with, we are fed up with maintenance problems in our current rental place so are now in the rent-again-or-attempt-to-buy dilemma. We really want to buy our own place to put all the renovation and decorating ideas we have swimming around our heads (and Pinterest - follow me here) into action.

But wherever we end up, I like the idea of low living for the lounge, inspired by this image above. I’ve not come across many low cabinets like this though, so I’m thinking we could repurpose what we already have. We have this metal Ikea PS cabinet in white in our cellar/living room, which I love for its industrial feel. If we remove the legs, pop two side by side (one without the doors) and lay some reclaimed planks on top – I think we’re pretty close to this cool, minimal look. What do you reckon?

I must admit, I’m not normally one for Ikea, but this cabinet is a real gem. Initially, it was a last ditch solution to not being able to get any of our furniture down into the cellar room (it’s a teeny old cottage with low ceilings and awkward staircases), but now I love it as a contrast to our vintage pieces.

The Glitter Guide

September 1, 2011

We're off to Hungary this morning for a mini holiday and our friends wedding in Budapest at the weekend. I'll still be posting each day, but in the meantime, have you checked out The Glitter Guide? It is my new favourite daily read and dose of utter girlie-ness. The Style at Home feature is great to get a peek into the pads of stylish ladies and see gems like this magpie’s nest belonging to Catherine – owner of cute boutique Hallelu.

Just look at all those rings! Aside from being in awe of her jewellery collection, I love her storage idea of what looks like an old thimble case. I often come across them at auctions and flea markets and now have just the use for one – just got to stock up my ring collection to fill it.
