Vintage Fest fun
August 1, 2011
Morning lovelies, how are you? I hope you had a great weekend, we certainly did - visiting friends in London and of course showcasing our furniture with Etsy at the Vintage Fest at Southbank. It was beautiful weather and just a wonderful place to be, full of weird and wonderful people, creations and vintage finds. The whole Southbank was completely buzzing and it was a really great event to be part of.
It was good to meet the UK Etsy team and some other sellers, and to chat to shoppers to raise awareness of the site. Ruby Rhino proved really popular; we've received lots of enquiries to follow-up on this week and had some really positive vibes about our furniture, which was just great! Here's a little snap shot of the weekend and you can see more on the Facebook page. I'd like to thank all of our lovely friends who popped by to show their support, and of course to Etsy for asking us to take part.
Urban Cheesecraft
July 27, 2011
Cheese is by far my biggest weakness when it comes to food, I could eat it every single day and the stinkier the better as far as I'm concerned. I'd love to give cheesemaking a go, and what a great idea these DIY kits are by Claudia Lucero from Urban Cheesecraft. I'm gutted Claudia is based in Portland, USA as I would love to attend one of her classes: I feel so inspired by her passion for the process, captured on film by Etsy here.

Art crush // Tush Tush
July 26, 2011
I seem to be frequently drawn to portraits of young girls with a preoccupied or troubled expression... I love to wonder what's on their mind. The latest art of this kind to catch my eye is the acrylic paintings and prints by Israeli illustrator Tali or Tush Tush. Tali captures her subjects with such striking detail and expression I feel I could gaze at them for hours. These are just three of my favourites - check out Tali's full shop here.

Mini moodboard // Silk and steel
July 21, 2011
Just two things I'm drawn to today that I feel fit nicely together. I'd quite like to be wearing this hand painted silk t-shirt from Etsy seller Rachel Rose, whilst working on some fun new magazine features sitting on a yellow painted chair at that funky upcycled table.
Vintage at Southbank
July 19, 2011
Today I have some uber exciting news to share - Ruby Rhino will be exhibiting with Etsy at Vintage at Southbank next week! We had a lovely surprise email from Etsy last week asking if we could like to feature a couple of pieces of furniture on the Etsy stand at the festival which takes over the Southbank Centre for three days of vintage fun. We had to think about it, ooh, all of a second, before jumping at the chance.

The festival, which is organised by Wayne and Gerardine Hemmingway, is in its second year and a celebration of all that is cool about vintage music, fashion, art, design, film and food from the 1920s to 1980s. See this video for more details - it sounds like its going to be fantastic event for vintage lovers like us!
Our furniture will be on the Etsy stand for the duration of tge three day event, and I shall be there on Sunday afternoon. Please stop to say hi if you're attending, and I'll report back with pictures and news after the big event.
Ruby Rhino Etsy treasuries
July 13, 2011
Since we opened on our Etsy shop we've been fortunate to feature in 65 wonderful treasuries. For those of you not familiar with Etsy, a treasury is a collection of goodies curated by members - it's both a fun thing to do and a handy way to help others find and shop for treasures. The 'Great horned owl' treasury below is the latest one to feature our fabulous Stella chest of drawers, and I've picked a small selection of other favourites - just click on the links to see all the goodies in more detail and shop away.

The strange planet
July 12, 2011
Sometimes I don't know I need something until I see it. Do you get that? Recently its been the yummy stuff filling up my every growing Pinterest food file, but this morning it is these curious hand-painted animal figurines in the Strange Planet collection from Italian artist The Good Machinery. I need one on my desk, and think it really has to be the rhino.

What's making you smile today?
July 6, 2011
What's putting a smile on your face this week? I think it's nice to find fun things all around us and embrace the small stuff to keep us going through the working week.
So at Ruby Rhino HQ, I'm finding work (and the detox) easier when I type away with my new Topshop cuff, and I'm excited to add this delicious strawberry vodka in mason jars to my to-make list before summer is out. This sunny gal's outfit is inspiring new furniture designs, as well as encouraging me to be more bold with colour in my wardrobe, and I'm excited for our trip to Brighton for my birthday in a couple of weeks.
This beautiful orchid card from a friend is brightening up my desk, and I always love to see simple ideas like paper lanterns made so stylish. I'm tempted by more fruity loveliness with this strawberry honey butter, and isn't it nice to be reminded that it's ok not to have polished shiny hair? Yay for messy mops!
Art crush // Catherine Campbell
June 29, 2011
We have a second artist to decorate our walls with more loveliness today - Australian gal Catherine Campbell from Melbourne. Catherine's whimsical work has been a firm 'favourite' of mine on Etsy for some time - I adore the curious compositions and stunning detail. I'm really drawn to illustrations of girls at the moment - I think I'll just go with it and create a little collection of pretty prints. Visit her Etsy shop here, and find out more on Catherine's blog.

Love me some letterpress
June 16, 2011
I love letterpress, and think you will too after seeing this video from Naomie Ross - pop over for a look-see! My latest addition is this awesome Star, Thistle and Garter print from Quail Lane Press, and I've got my eye on the Beautiful Idiots print from UK Etsian Anoymous Hands too.
