Are you a fan of white bedding? I first bought some a couple of years ago and now can't imagine going back to colour. There is something so serene and calming about white in the bedroom that creates a sanctuary to relax after the stress of a busy day. In this image, I love the juxtaposition of fresh, crisp linen against the reclaimed grey washed wood headboard and old window panes - perfection.

In love with linen

September 2, 2011

I have developed a real crush on linen recently. In a similar way to my love for enamelware, linen is beautiful, useful and long-lasting – basically all the elements you want from something that will become part of your home and passed through the generations. Maybe I sound like an old romantic but wouldn't you want to sink into these deliciously soft sheets and imagine you are eating breakfast in a lovely french chateau? We've got some great PR shots from The Linen Works here, but I think linen really does create the feel of rustic elegance that so many of us covet.

Of course, as with all the loveliest materials, it isn’t cheap. I adore the bedding from The Linen Works and Toast – two places I’d be stocking up from regularly if I had the budget – but luckily there’s a bargain source around too. H&M! I wasn't too keen on the baby blue and sugary pink, so I opted for white and am eagerly awaiting delivery of the double duvet set next week.

Good morning, how are you? I hope you had a fun-filled weekend. We've been busy packing up furniture for a magazine shoot this week, (which we're very excited about and can't wait to tell you more when it is published!) and working on a couple of great new upcycled designs.

I've also been working on some fun homes spreads for Fabulous magazine recently, including this one which featured in Saturday's Sun. I have so say, this was one of the my favourite briefs to work on and I loved sourcing the lovely luxe products and lifestyle shots. I hope you like it too.

Today we have a little snippet of a room as opposed to the whole shabang but there's still so much loveliness going on, not least the delicious palette of ivory and orange. I tend to like simple, understated bed frames but this beauty with its ornate ironwork really caught my eye. It's grandeur provides great contrast to the beat-up grey painted floor, dusty old suitcases and industrial style lamp - a great showcase of mixing and matching styles to add style and personality. Would you fancy snoozing here or sipping coffee as the morning sun streams in?

Hi friends, hope you had a great weekend. What did you think to the Royal wedding? I must admit, I was glued to the TV all morning and thought it was wonderful. Kate just looked so elegant and William very cute and proud, a very special occasion indeed.

So, like we all do, I love finding new (to me) blogs and I stumbled on a beauty over the weekend - The Marion House Book. Emma is a Toronto-based designer who blogs about life in her old Victorian house including interior design, cooking and DIY projects.

I was instantly blown away by the bedroom she has recently completed and couldn't resist sharing it with you. It feels like such a tranquil, understated and stylish space and I adore the relaxed vibe achieved with the putty coloured walls, layering and raw textures.

The upcycled elements are awesome too - Emma commissioned a local carpenter to make the headboard and bench from reclaimed Douglas Fir barn beans and had the cushions (at the back) made from an old worn rug. I could imagine enjoying lovely weekend mornings here, with a mug of steaming coffee and the Sunday supplements - heaven.

Regular readers will know that I'm working on our bedroom at the moment, and still undecided over that dark wall. As we have such a small flat, the bedroom isn't the chilled and tranquil space I'd like it to be. The theory goes that the room where we sleep should be kept free from any electrical devices and anything distracting like bright colours and patterns, in order to aid rest and relaxation. In reality, I wonder how many rooms are actually like this, as it's nice to inject some personality into our bedrooms and I bet many people are guilty of letting a TV slip in to watch movies or morning TV on the weekends. I'm writing this from my desk in our bedroom, which must go against all the rules! But it made me think that all we really need in the room is a comfortable surface to sleep on. Could you live with such a simple and sparse room? Would you even want to? It's definitely something to think about in this digital age when we're switched on and tuned in to one device or another 24/7. To be able enter a room at the end of the day that allows us to truly switch off would be bliss. No laptop or iPhone on the bedside table, just calming colours and a comfy bed with fresh cosy bedding. These images show different levels of simplicity, how much could you live with? one, two, three, four, five, six This blog post is part of the mydeco.com ?Pass It On Bedroom series?, a collaborative blogging project. I'm inviting Johanna Nilsson and Chloe Adlington to pass it on.
