Bespoke commission // restored cast iron roll-top bath

November 16, 2011

I've been itching to share this commission with you but didn't want to spoil the surprise for our lovely clients Clare and Henry. We delivered it to them at the weekend though so now I can tell you more about the project - which was to source, restore and refinish a wonderful antique cast iron roll-top bath.

Only when I started researching antique baths did I realise just how many different styles there are. Taps at the middle or at the end, attached or freestanding; a tapered tub that narrows towards one end, or dips in the middle - and then there's the feet with countless varied styles.

Following consultation, we sourced an old beat-up tub to Clare and Henry's requirements and this is definitely my preferred design - the chic shape and claw and ball feet feel completely classic and timeless.

Many steps followed to get the old bath into tip top shape before we could apply Clare's chosen paint colour of this eye-popping pink - what a fantastic shade, right? It looks so modern and fresh against the white.

Our clients are over the moon with the result and we enjoyed the project so much that we have decided to now officially roll out this service through Ruby Rhino. Reconditioned antique cast iron roll-top baths to order - please get in touch to find out more.
